Respect

The revolting image conjured up by Iain Campbell (Letters, 14 June) on the potential health hazards of recycling unwanted food highlights why all food (whether sold in shops, supermarkets, pubs, cafes, restaurants, take-aways) should be subject to the full rate of VAT; to be partially offset by an increase in the minimum wage, state pension and certain benefits for those who would genuinely suffer. We might then start to treat our food with more respect.
