Plenty of onliners checked in to share their views on the latest 'tartan tat' row, plenty's said on hospitals and houses

The Gold Brothers have been ordered to close a 'tartan tat' shop they opened next door to kiltmaker Geoffrey Nicholsby's new workshop.

I made a formal complaint about the loud music being blasted out from one of these tartan tat shops. The council official all but called me a racist and said he wasn't going to do anything about it, even though they are breaking the law.

Good news. All these cheap and nasty tartan tat shops ought to be banned indefinitely – it certainly does cheapen the place and they always have really loud music which is such an embarrassment!

How about an accreditation scheme for shops that sell genuine Highland gear of a good standard, that tourists can trust.

These shops create jobs for local people, they pay their taxes, and quite simply they wouldn't exist if people didn't shop there. The majority of tourists just want a keepsake of their visit and wouldn't spend three times as much on the same item, just because it was made locally. Items sold in these shops and all tourist shops around the world are clearly marked with their country of origin. This is a tourist town, these shops are part of the deal. Live with it.

Three infection risks are spotted every day in Lothian hospitals.

This stems from the change in nursing training over the last 50 years. Too many hours spent discussing better ways instead of concentrating on basic health and hygiene and physical work. Too many chiefs and too few Indians actually nursing patients.

I'm old enough to remember many years ago when they had matrons in hospital wards who ruled their wards with an iron fist overseeing hygiene and cleaning. Now with daily cleaning outsourced, I don't think there is the same care given to the day-to-day cleaning and hygiene standards as there was then.

Aye right, because every single visitor, relative and member of public is scrupulous with their hygiene, aren't they? They have superhuman powers and don't spread infection. And they never ever visit with an infection themselves, do they?

The real dracula

And finally . . . thousands of people are living alone in council 'family' housing. Two sides to every story.

If you live in a three-bedroom house in a nice area which you have bought and paid for, would you move out of it to let someone else live there? No. Well why then should someone who has lived in a property for many years and paid rent over that time, probably equating to many times the value of the property, move out of their home either.

The housing mentioned in this report is council rented housing and should be assigned due to need. The tenant has NO rights to stay in the property and should be evicted. If the tenant is not happy, then they should go out and get a proper job and BUY a house.
