Off the rails

While Andrew Peters correctly deplores the dilapidated state of Edinburgh’s roads (Letters, 26 January 2012), he is mistaken to say councillors did not have a popular mandate for the trams project. The majority (more than 75 per cent) of our democratically elected councillors voted for them, thus representing the will of the people.

What they did not vote for was the shocking mismanagement of the project, a seemingly unenforceable fixed price contract, the absence of effective quality control and a divided council administration.
