Pubs may dry up

the unintended consequences of the well-meaning amendment to the current drink-drive limit (your report, 28 May) may disproportionately affect rural and remote hotels, inns and pubs.

I am sure your readers will be familiar with some of these far-flung hostelries which rely for survival – especially in the summer as many close for winter – on tourists and locals having a drink with a meal.

This proposed amendment may prove to be the final nail in the coffin for some pubs and the communities they serve, particularly as schools and other services are consolidated and centralised.
