I wish Dr Mike Cantlay every success in his new role as chairman of VisitScotland and welcome his view that "Scottish tourism (enjoys] a magic ingredient … long-term sustainability" (your report, 2 April).

One way to guarantee sustainability would be for VisitScotland to encourage "visitor attractions" and give details of how to get to them by public transport.

It is regrettable that publicity for so many places of interest only contains directions for access by car and, where public transport is mentioned, the information is often inaccurate.

VisitScotland can play a vital role in encouraging increased use to the benefit of both visitors and locals alike.
