Price of property

In response to Ellis Thorpe (Letters, 24 June), freedom is not possible in any way without private property, and the cancellation of private property in the 20th century led to dictatorship, war and mass starvation.

America’s charities are having to cope with the failure of state intervention in the economy and, as usual, this failure is being blamed on capitalism.
