Prejudice at work

Our inbuilt, hardwired disrespect of, and prejudice against, “foreigners” is openly outed in your headline “Ryder Cup volunteers may be housed in old PoW camp for Nazis” (your report, 18 May).

My wife’s uncle Gerhard was taken to the camp at Comrie after his capture in northern France. During his confinement there, there had been a “troublesome” Nazi among the prisoners who eventually was given his come-uppance at the hands of the others from his country.

The defensive pre-disposition to assume is based on ignorance or a template acceptance of popular thought. It runs against the principles of freedom, mutes our viability to enter into a genuine and open internationally trusting community and does not befit an otherwise clued-up journalist working on our behalf.
