Power to change

I am not surprised to read that Scottish Government buildings are far from energy efficient.

The SNP’s pledge to put their own houses in order has slipped off their agenda.

At a time when every penny is needed to maintain essential services, it seems profligate to squander money in a stunning 79 of their own offices for want of better insulation, more efficient boilers and a clutch of solar panels.

Yet again, I am struck by how often no connection is made between making public buildings more energy-efficient and saving money to spend in other areas.

Taking all the steps within their power to minimise carbon emissions should be the number one priority – but of course success in this area doesn’t grab the headlines in the same way as lobbing bricks at Westminster.
