Pensioners

Your article headlined “Osborne raids the aged to aid the waged” (22 March) states that the average pensioner will be £80 worse off after the Budget. On pages 7 and 8, the headline reads “5,000 Scottish pensioners will lose out over granny tax”.

Then on page 11 of The Budget 2012 supplement of the same paper, the ready reckoner table shows that the only pensioners who will be worse off are those under 65 with incomes over £150,000 (hardly average pensioners).

There may well be grounds for criticising the coalition in relation to the Budget, but it is wrong, unfair and misleading to state that the average pensioner will be worse off.
