Pay controls

In THE wake of the furore over banking bonuses, I would say that it is impossible to reconcile top executive pay deals simply on the basis of job evaluation when considering their total package, which includes substantial fringe benefits. How can a bank chief executive be worth 20-30 times greater salary than, say, a surgeon saving lives with skill and dedication in our crazy world where salaries seem to be driven more by greed than fairness?

If Prime Minister David Cameron is sincere in what he says in giving shareholders more power to rein in bonuses, then they should be given the final say in deciding chief executives’ pay packages so that earnings are tied to share price and profitability.
