Open to offers

As Alex Massie writes (Perspective, 7 July), an independent Scotland could and should be an attractive place for immigrants.

Given that Scotland was probably a block of ice about 20,000 years ago, present Scots are presumably all either immigrants or descendants of immigrants.

Under a former administration we had the “Fresh Talent Initiative” which let those from outwith the EU who had graduated from Scottish universities and colleges get visa extensions allowing them to stay here and work for two years.

Two years is not a career. We should enable such talented people to settle here so that they and their children can help create and maintain a prosperous Scotland.
