New direction

Alistair Harkness has developed a jaundiced view of the film business and tries too hard to be erudite. He likes very few films and must put many older people off ever going to the cinema with his negative reviews.

I enjoyed The Kid (review, 24 June) very much and was glad I didn't let his hurtful, scathing remarks put me off going. These film-makers are working with the NSPCC and deserve to be treated with respect. Films with a Scottish connection nearly always get put down, as do most British films. As he appears to know what makes the perfect film I suggest he become a film director.
