Motet moments

Kenneth Walton's preview of the East Neuk Festival (16 June) looked forward to the Tallis Scholars performing Tallis's 40-part motet Spem in Alium in Holy Trinity Church, St Andrews, and considered other Scottish performances work in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The church in St Andrews has in fact hosted two previous performances of Spem in Alium. Both were performed by the University of St Andrews Renaissance Group: once in 1995 for the choir's 40th anniversary, and more recently in 2005 for its 50th.

I was fortunate enough to sing in both performances.
