Monty’s shadow

SIR Fred Goodwin should not be stripped of his knighthood (Letters, 20 January). This extreme step should only be taken against persons guilty of moral turpitude.

Sir Fred may have made financial misjudgments. But we all make mistakes. Who, for example, would grudge the late Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery his status as a viscount, though his judgment at Arnhem has been called into question?
