The Miller’s tale

Bill Jamieson, in his splendid article, “Culture of conceit with no humility” (10 April), suggests that Ukip leader Nigel Farage will be the main beneficiary of the Maria Miller debacle.

I would go further and submit that if there is a Yes outcome in the referendum it will not be because of the intrinsic merits of the case for independence but because Westminster, and the City, have shown themselves absolutely incapable of reform.

It is a cliché but I would suggest we get the politicians we deserve as a consequence of our failure
to recognise the role the citizen has to play in safeguarding
democracy.

I blame the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards for Maria Miller’s resignation. If only the Parliamentary Commissioner had instructed Mrs Miller to not only apologise to Parliament but “apologise as if you really really meant it. You can do sincerity?” she would still be in her job.
