Media warning

David Cameron, it is reported, is resisting celebrity pressure to muzzle the media over the Leveson report and is against heavy-handed state intervention. What about heavy-handed media intervention in state affairs?

Anyone who has read Piers Brendon’s informative and revealing book Eminent Elizabethans will have discovered that Cameron, Blair and Thatcher, like Icarus, flew just a little too close to the Sun for comfort. And we all know where Icarus ended up.
