Marxism and tax

In defending the 50p tax rate as fair (Letters, 16 November), Iain J McConnell tells us to “forget how much money it raises”. In fact, that is precisely what we should not do. A tax that does not raise any money is economically and morally false. There is no justification in sound economics for taxing the rich. Such a measure is only fair if one accepts the basic premises of Marxism.

Maintaining this tax rate in the face of economic reality tells the population that rational economics must be sacrificed to Marxist gesture politics.
