Love lost at BBC

Coming from a similar coal mining background I have always recognised the fundamental truth in the reflections of DH Lawrence on the dehumanising effects industrialisation.

His view of the English upper class with its vast wealth and privilege chimes with Kenneth Clark’s observation “they had charming manners but were as ignorant as swans”.

The BBC’s recent adaption of Lady Chatterley’s Lover was profoundly disappointing – it missed the point to such an extent it was really a misrepresentation of Lawrence’s creative work.

Towards the end of his life 
I heard the great critic FR Leavis affirm Lawrence’s artistic integrity, his moral seriousness and the place of his work in the canon of the English novel.
