Lighten up, guys

If asked which of Edinburgh’s famous sights is the best known worldwide, I
reckon most residents would be happy to lay a bet on the answer being the Castle.

Now here we are, days before Christmas, in a city flooded with lights from all sorts of sources – historical, commercial or just fun – and many visitors going about after dark would be forgiven for wondering where the Castle is.

Of late it seems to sit on its rock, shrouded in gloomy shades of bluey grey or half-hearted pinky purple.

I remember the days when it glowed and shone as the crowning glory of a beautiful winter city.

What are the lighting guys thinking of?
