Letters: Off message

FORMER MSP Tom Harris, who posted on YouTube an amusing take on Alex Salmond lecturing MSPs about the offensive comments made by SNP MSP Joan McAlpine, has resigned (your report, 18 January).

Did he jump or was he pushed? Perhaps he was misguided in using footage from Downfall featuring an evil megalomaniac tyrant like Adolf Hitler to make his point.

It may have been better if he had used images of someone who was less controversial, was a model of perfection, was revered (on pain of immediate “re-education”) by his devoted people and could also apparently, like our dear leader Mr Salmond, walk on water too.

Yes, the late Kim-Jong Ill would have been much more appropriate.

Tom Harris may have been naïve in the way he portrayed an important message, but we should very much highlight the fact that the SNP, via Joan McAlpine, is unrepentant in classing “Scottishness”.

I am extremely Scottish, and love Scotland, but certainly do not support the SNP vision, particularly independence. Does that make me different or dangerous?

I find the SNP message to be extremely worrying.

If it takes a Tom Harris to highlight this then I can live with his tactics.
