Letter: Well done Sandy

I HAVE no interest or connection with HSBC, but I think the retirement of Sandy Flockhart (your report, 6 April) should not go unremarked.

Alone among the British banks, HSBC needed no help from the taxpayer when the disaster struck, and this was largely due to the hard work and clear thinking of Sandy Flockhart and his colleagues.

If the other bankers in similar positions had acted with the same foresight and imagination, we would all be a lot better off today.
