Letter: True grit

Community spirit is alive and well in the Swanston area of Edinburgh.

We have had 2ft of snow for a week. My husband Chris with neighbours Naresh and Ian put fliers into all the residents' doors inviting them to join them in "the great escape" dig.

Over 50 people turned out and in three hours we had cleared a car track with passing places to Swanston Road.

Many many thanks to all who joined in from Swanston Park, Crescent, Loan, Row, Way and Green. They did it with spades and true grit. All we need now is some road grit to keep the roads clear.
