Letter: Trams off track

Paul H Scott is quite right that the Edinburgh tram scheme was opposed only by the SNP (Letters, 12 June). I must admit that on that score, the SNP were correct.

This unwanted and unnecessary scheme is late in delivery, spiralling in costs and totally impractical. It would be too much for the proponents of the scheme to consider the existing infrastructure for a scheme that would service the city of Edinburgh: namely the railway. For about 20 million, this scheme could be set up in months, serving the city as a whole, not just the west and centre of the city.

The tram scheme is an utter waste of money and the city needs a common-sense solution.
