Letter: Tory mindset

The astonishing and revealing comments by the Tory mandarin Lord Young, that "we never had it so good in spite of the so-called recession", speaks volumes for the complete disconnect between the privileged classes who run this country and the lesser beings who actually have to live in it.

The "so-called recession"? Can this man be serious or does his healthy bank account and privileged position insulate him completely from the plight of the unemployed and elderly?

What makes it worse is the frantic rearguard action of David Cameron et all trying to downplay this appalling gaffe.

They assure us that he does not speak for the government. Perhaps not, but Lord Young's comments do speak volumes for the instinctive mindset at the heart of the Tory Party.

With the continually spiralling costs of food and fuel clawing more and more out of family budgets, especially for those on a fixed income, the sheer, blind, insensitivity of these comment isunforgivable.

If nothing else, in Scotland at least, this latest foolishness serves admirably as a recruiting sergeant for the Nationalists
