Letter: Time for tartan

In conversations with visitors to Edinburgh the subject of the kilt and trews cropped up; many asked why our dignitaries were not so visibly Scottish in their dress.

I have checked with a few pertinent people in the council and many said they would welcome this - trews appeared to be the most popular option. Our National Gallery of Scotland seems to be the only venue where tartan dress is worn.

Why don't more of our city's representatives dress similarly? Apart from three city-centre hotels, our tartan heritage seems to have been erased.

Time for a change?
