Letter: Theocratic rule?

today and tomorrow across Scotland the newly elected local authority councillors will be meeting for the first time to constitute their committees and to appoint three religious representatives to their education committees as required by law.

What was the point of having elections on 3 May if religious representatives are to be imposed on these committees? The situation seems reminiscent of theocracies like Iran.

Even at this late stage concerned citizens could contact their newly elected representatives and urge them, in protest, to refrain from making the appointments and to seek to change the relevant and outdated laws that lead to this situation.
