Letter: Talent-free zone

Former MP Anne Widdecombe strolls through another week on Strictly Come Dancing despite the fact that, strictly speaking, she can't actually dance.

Meanwhile, someone called Wagner survives another week on X Factor, despite being the poorest singer in the competition.

Are viewers finally fed up with reality television and voting to subvert the genre? Or is something more subliminal happening, such as a realisation that Britain now has a much-reduced status in the world pecking order which is perhaps driving us to celebrate the mediocre above those with real talent?
