Letter: Syrian distortion

I TAKE issue with the article, "Boy of 12 among dozens of protesters killed by Israelis" (6 June). This is a sensationalist headline that presented the death of a minor and dozens of others by the Israel Defence Force as fact.

As we know, these figures came from Syrian state TV, which had its own motives for publishing an inaccurate account. Can one trust a regime such as Syria to publish reliable data when it is on a propaganda mission to divert from its own atrocities?

It will be interesting to see if a name and picture of the 12-year-old boy will be released. I think that is unlikely. I am staggered that nowhere in the article does it say that the figures were according to Syrian state TV. It is only stated "according to reports".

It is also outrageous that the article said dozens were killed as this implies a far greater number of casualties.
