Letter: Say No to guns

Your report on the possibility of arming British Transport Police is chilling, especially the analysis by "defence expert" David Capitanchik (25 May).

He says that since transport police carry guns in London, they should carry them here. What a ludicrous thing to say.

He also asserts that climate change protesters at Aberdeen Airport would have dispersed sooner if the police there had been armed. As I say, chilling.

Your editorial puts things properly in perspective, thankfully, and I hope and pray that our political leaders will never countenance the sort of view espoused by Mr Capitanchik and others. We have followed, slowly but slavishly, the American model on too many things for too long, and this would be another example. No thank you.
