Letter: Protest motives

How refreshing to see the First Minister marching under Union and RAF flags in protest at the Moray air base closures (your report, 8 November).

If he has, at last, realised the vital importance of membership of the UK to the people of Scotland, and the crucial aspect of our being an integral part of Britain, welcome on board, Mr Salmond. Better late than never.

If, however, as the more cynical would surmise, this is merely another Diageo-style publicity stunt, when his party's wish for Scotland to be free of any long-term UK linkage remains the motivating force in all his actions, then it is shameful.
