Letter: A poor decision

In proposing to axe its community education department, those in charge of Strathclyde University have shown a complete disregard for those who have most benefited from that department: those at the bottom on the socio-economic scale.

It's the Community Education department that trains youth workers to work in the most needy areas; it's that department that helps place adult education staff in areas where those who need the most help can access it.

It takes people with a passion to help the poor and needy and trains them to do that well. Shame on those who have decided that the poor and the needy in Scottish society no longer deserve their consideration when it comes to running a university.
