Letter: Political priorities

As one of Hugh Henry's long suffering constituents, I'm cross he has the gall to throw his hat into the ring to be the next presiding officer (your report, 26 April) when he's more pressing matters in hand - his constituents.

Under his tenure as leader of the local council and subsequently as an MSP, he and his ex-militant cronies presided over Johnstone, Linwood and Paisley going downhill.

Even with a Labourite government in Westminster and Holyrood, the only "success stories" in our area have been the modern pawn shops for the junkies to "convert" their ill-gotten gains.

Now that Scottish Labour's in the dustbin where it put much of the country, he and the lesser-spotted Dougie Alexander MP should spend the next few years doing a day's work for their constituents and not merely for their own advancement.
