Letter: Parking penalty

I would be interested to hear about other people's responses to Edinburgh Council's "Park Green" policy.

As an Edinburgh resident who occupies a property in one of the restricted parking zones, I already pay for the privilege of parking outside my home. Now, however, the council is seeking to penalise us even further, depending on the engine capacity of the cars we choose to drive.

I thought the levy on engine capacity and CO2 emissions was a function of the road tax licence rather than the city's parking permit policy, particularly when my neighbours, with the benefit of off-road parking facilities, not only avoid the annual cost of the permit but can also drive whatever make and size of car they choose with impunity, irrespective of its engine capacity or CO2 discharge.

Surely this is one ill- conceived policy too far even for Edinburgh.
