Letter: Out in the cold

Well done Norman Pope (Letters, 4 December) for suggesting private firms deal with the chaos caused by snow. As a wheelchair user, I need the car in these conditions, but the car is going nowhere. We are on a hill and can see the gritters and snowploughs going back and forward on the main road. So near and yet so far.

When asked why countries with months of snow manage to cope, a council official said they knew to the minute when snow was coming, so that made their plans easier. Wow, I hope any real emergency can be relayed to our councillors in good time so they will be ready.

Meanwhile, council tax payers on side streets will just have to wait for the thaw.
