Letter: Museum letdown

To SAY that I am underwhelmed by the new Glasgow transport museum, the Riverside Museum (Features, 3 June), hardly goes far enough. I am appalled. The deficiencies are summed up by the Wall of Cars. The curators have missed the point in the public's fascination with old vehicles.

They have gone to vast effort and expense to create an artistic installation. We want to get close to these exhibits; smell the leather upholstery, gasp at unconventional pedal layouts and unlikely controls, wonder at the polished restoration and grasp the progress made in 100 years.

In what appears to be an extension of the original Glasgow street exhibit, designers have grasped the point. It is a pity the same philosophy has not gone into the display of their exceptional collection of cars.
