Letter: Health disservice

Dr Charles Winstanley, in his response to the damning report on bullying at the organisation he chairs, says that he wants to ensure “that NHS Lothian never finds itself in this position again” (your report, 12 May).

Dr Winstanley must explain what he knew about what was going on: either he knew and did nothing, or he didn’t know.

I don’t see how either answer is compatible with his remaining in post. The 20 non-executive members of this bloated board also owe us an explanation of what they knew, and what they did with that knowledge.

As for Tim Davison, the interim chief executive, his bland and complacent management-speak response – “I am certain that we can use this report as a way of ensuring NHS Lothian moves forward with confidence and ambition” – offers no hope that the report’s lessons will actually be implemented.
