Letter: Giant day centre

Your report (15 June) on the newly christened 12,000-seat Scottish Hydro Arena on the banks of the Clyde in Glasgow states that Scottish Hydro Electric will be sponsoring this new venue to the tune of £1.5 million per annum, for a period of ten years.

Ian Marchant, Scottish and southern Energy's chief executive, is quoted as saying that as part of the deal they would be looking to offer customer packages involving tickets to events at the arena.

I wonder if he might also consider opening it, in winter, as a day centre for his pensioner customers who can no longer afford to heat their homes adequately.
