Letter: Gathering storm

It was great trepidation I read your article "Taxpayers left facing huge bill for Gathering compensation claims" (26 June). In the past year, the taxpayer has seen billions of pounds tossed at the UK banks to compensate for their mismanagement. So how "huge" was The Gathering compensation likely to be?

Reading the article, the "huge" sum appears to be 426,000, which is under half the probable tax take raised by the event.

Such a sum is equivalent to what the UK contributes every 15 minutes to the European Union. So we need to get such sums into perspective and look at the value of the Gathering to Scotland – not just the cost.
