However, he is wrong in saying the St Patrick’s cross represents Northern Ireland.

The current Union flag was created in 1801 when the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland was formed – combining the Union Flag of 1606 (the Saltire and St George’s cross) with the cross of St Patrick for Ireland.

The flag has never been updated to reflect that the Republic of Ireland has ceded from the Union and, as a courtesy to our separatist friends, the flag should be updated to reflect a symbol of Northern Ireland.
