Letter: Fillip for forces

At last we see political talk turned to reality with the long overdue introduction of a covenant (your report, 16 May) to ensure all our armed forces are treated with respect and dignity.

For too many years our armed forces have been treated badly with poor hospital and post-war care, not to mention the sub-standard housing offered to their families for many years.

It is fitting that those who are prepared to fight and die for their country are now to be treated with some respect and dignity and to be fairly compensated for the loyalty shown in defence of our political follies.
