Letter: Enlightenment on low energy bulbs

IN RESPONSE to the letter "Dim view of low-energy light bulbs" (8 May), this information might be helpful.

Louise Molloy from the environmental group Greenpeace says: "Rather than being worried about the mercury these light bulbs contain, the general public should be reassured that using them will actually reduce the amount of mercury overall in our atmosphere."

Government ministers hope that using the more environmentally friendly bulbs will save at least five million tonnes' worth of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
