Letter: Energy jobs

Beth Stratford of Friends of the Earth Scotland (Platform, 9 May) disputes the employment numbers in the Verso Economics report on the jobs impact of subsidising the renewable industry.

In fact, all of the examples cited that she claims were excluded from the report are included in the figures.

Moreover, she doesn't explain how you can "create" jobs by replacing one technology with another, let alone when the new technology requires subsidy.

There may be an environmental case for the switch to renewables but to pretend that the renewable energy sector is going to give us a jobs bonanza is misleading.
