Letter: Economic misery

As we see unemployment rising in Scotland (your report, 17 November) it is a reflection of the state of the Scottish economy dragging behind the rest of the UK as some sort of poor relative.

Almost one in four jobs in Scotland is now within the state system, which is about to take a severe reduction in numbers. This will make the unemployment situation even worse and lead to more misery for Scottish people.

It is difficult to see a way out for Scotland in the short term other than hoping and praying for a speedy recovery or some sort of financial miracle that dreams are made of.
