Letter: Decent meals

All Scotland should applaud the award on the CNN Hollywood Heroes show to the founder of Mary's Meals, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow (your report, 22 November).

Mary's Meals is an international movement to set up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.

It provides daily meals in school to almost 460,000 children in 16 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and eastern Europe.

And as Mary's Meals provides daily meals to chronically hungry children in their local schools, it also encourages them to attend school and, through education, gain a better future for them and their communities.

This is a wonderful cause and demonstrates the extraordinary impact that individuals with energy and commitment can have.
