Letter: Crystal clear aims

Women with a social conscience might want to clear out the old before joining the sparkling company (Magazine, 11 June) who will be wearing crystal with everything in the coming season. Scottish members of Soroptimists International are running a jewellery recycling collection to raise £1 million to help women and children in Sierra Leone.

Called Project Sierra, A Family and a Future, the worldwide quadrennial fundraising project, to deliver transformative change in partnership with Hope and Homes for Children, ends in July.

The money will help strengthen families at risk of breakdown, to enable children living on the streets to return home, and empower young, vulnerable women.

We have raised more than 877,000 and even damaged, broken and incomplete items will help us reach our target. Put them in a plastic bag inside an envelope and send it to me. It will be turned into a donation that will make some desperate eyes a long way away sparkle with hope.
