Letter: Cinematic stars

CONGRATULATIONS to Tilda Swinton and Kelly Macdonald for being nominated for the Golden Globe awards (your report, 16 December).

Swinton, in particular, is just the sort of cultural icon that modern-day Scotland needs abroad.

She is supremely talented, edgy, intelligent, beautiful in a strange way and shows the world that Scotland is about much more than Braveheart, tartan and shortbread (not that there’s anything wrong with those things, mind).
