Letter: Church omission

Mary Clare Bancewicz (Letters, 26 November) raises a valid point when she asks what is funny about child abuse. The answer is glaringly obvious - absolutely nothing.

However, she is correct to draw attention to the victims here - who are, of course, those who were abused by priests. It is a pity that the letter from the Catholic Church to the Scottish Football Association contained not one word for those victims.

Had the content of that letter focused on the sensitivities of the victims of abuse, rather than attempting to portray the church as the victim, it may have been possible to believe that real change is taking place in the Catholic Church.

Instead, it took the opportunity to fuel what is an already sensitive situation surrounding Scottish football, playing to the mindset of persecution that Michael Kelly addressed in his column of the same day.
