Letter: Careful now, Alex

With the new SNP government only weeks old it has not been slow in passing down commandments such as "thou shall not close any schools" which followed close on the heels of "thou shall not interfere with Scottish justice".

I am not at all surprised to see Alex Salmond flexing his powerful political muscle but he must be careful of not making too many enemies and becoming a megalomaniac about power and all its trappings as he will ultimately rely on honest co-operation from Cosla and Westminster.

I cannot understand why the SNP has been allowed to monopolise the Saltire for its own political purpose.

Surely the other Scottish parties and their supporters could display the Scottish flag with equal justification and pride.

Many motorists travelling abroad have the Saltire displayed on their cars, proud to be recognised as Scottish but horrified if it was believed to indicate membership of the Scottish National Party.

As the rose, the leek and the daffodil are adopted elsewhere, possibly the SNP could adopt the thistle as its emblem.
