Letter: Business lessons

I feel very sorry for the children at St Margaret's in Edinburgh who have been left high and dry by the closure of their school ("Parents seek cash to rescue top private school", 12 June), but parents who send their children to such institutions ought to realise that they are businesses and, like any other business that fails to pay its way, they are liable to be shut down overnight without any sentimentality or crocodile tears.

The headteacher's advice to staff that the school will "cease to trade" on 29 June says it all. Schools should not be about "trading" but teaching.
