Letter: BP fightback

Whilst BP are paying all the costs of the massive environmental clean-up of the Louisiana coastline polluted by the blowout of the Deepwater Horizon rig (your reports), it should be noted that other companies were involved and had some responsibility for the drilling operation.

Transocean were the rig operators, Halliburton were responsible for "cementing", Cameron International supplied the blowout preventor that failed and the US Department of International Minerals Management failed to risk assess the operation properly.

It would be appropriate for BP to take action against these companies to recover a share of the massive compensation costs that increase in value almost daily.

This would also take the heat out of the anti-British talk that BP is facing with US politicians taking cheap political advantage.
